New to dive meets? Here's what to expect at your diver's first B Meet!
B Meets are fun! And when we host, there are lollipops...🍭
Divers at all levels can dive B meet and we encourage all novice divers to participate! If your diver prefers not to, we hope they will still join the team to cheer on their team mates as they try something new.
B Meets are developmental and an opportunity for newer divers to gain experience in a competition setting while showcasing new skills. Experienced divers are welcome to dive but MUST attempt one new dive or position in order to participate. Experienced divers should show up and support Buddy Divers by sitting with them, encouraging them and cheering them on. Experienced divers can elect to bow out of competition and just provide support to their Buddy Divers.
Keep in mind: jumps, falls ins and coach assisted dive are permitted in place of required dives for B meet competitions. All of these things are fundamental to learning good dives!
What to expect...
In swim, the boys go first but in dive, its ladies first. We go youngest to oldest, beginning with Freshman Girls and End with Senior Boys. In some meets where numbers are low, events will be combined and boys and girls will dive together in the interest of saving time.
Divers are given a brief warm up period before their event during which time the dive order will be announced, divers from each team will be alternated. The diving order will remain the same through all rounds and buddies will help divers be ready and coaches will give divers instructions as they take the board. Scores will be raised and recorded immediately following the dive and processed by the table. You can expect results from your diver's event to be given as the next group warms up, at which time your diver may come up and get a lolly.
The Freshman category will likely be longest. Please be patient and cheerful and give each new diver applause and support - its brave to get up and dive in front of everyone and many children feel nervous at their first meet!
B meets are a great opportunity for new judges to practice their skills too! We highly encourage those who have recently attended judge's clinics to take the best seat in the house.
If this was your first meet diving or judging, congratulations!!! We hope you had fun and can't wait to see you grow!
