A severe allergic reaction is called anaphylaxis and it can be life threatening and is a medical emergency.
It can occur within seconds or minutes to the person who has been exposed.
People are allergic various things, from foods, stinging insects, latex, or other allergens.
Please remember that if your son or daughter has a true life threatening allergy or are at risk for an asthma attack, he/she must have an Emergency Health Plan or an Asthma Action Plan on file at their school's Health Office. This type of plan is due the first week of school and is required to be filled out every new school year.
Please contact your physician to obtain this type of plan or you may also print out a copy that is available under the "Forms" Tab on the Main Page and request your physician to fill it out for your son/daughter for school. If your physician feels that your son/daughter doesn't need a plan, they must send a letter stating that the student doesn't require an Emergency or Asthma Plan.
Allergy Safety:
1. Carry your epi-pen or asthma inhaler with you at all times and know how to properly use it.
2. Wear identifying bracelet or necklace that informs others of the allergy.
3. Avoid foods or areas where allergens in the environment cause a reaction.
4. Know friends' allergies so that you can help them in case of a reaction.
5. If it's an allergy to certain foods, read all labels carefully and know the ingredients that trigger a reaction.
6. Remember reactions can be serious so call for help immediately.
