Schedule
This camp has badges offered in a block in either the morning, afternoon or all day. For example: with the exception of a few badges, scouts will be finished with whatever they choose to take on Monday by the end of the day Monday. Tuesday will be a different set of badges.
There are two badges - Horsemanship and Animal Science - offered in the evening at Stockton Farms which is 15 minutes from the camp.
The camp is doing something new for 2025 by offering some Program Pathways. Here are the options with their descriptions.
The Conservation Trail Pathway includes the Environmental Science, Forestry, and Soil and Water Conservation merit badges. Your Scout will deep dive into learning about the environment and how we can continue to protect and conserve the Earth’s resources. They will also take a field trip to the Cradle of Forestry as part of this adventure!
The Nature Trail Pathway includes the Nature, Insect Study, Mammal Study, and Reptile and Amphibian Study merit badges. Your Scout will deep dive into learning about the Flora and Fauna that surround us not only in Western North Carolina but within their home states. Have a Scout who already knows how to identify critters on a Troop campout, but want to learn more? This is the perfect opportunity for them!
The Primitive Explorer Pathway includes the Camping, Wilderness Survival and Pioneering merit badges. Each of these badges offer vital skills that all Scouts should know but putting them together is the real test. Scouts will learn proper camping techniques, how to utilize those skills in a wilderness setting while using pioneering skills to put their overnighter shelters together!
The Ready Scout Pathway includes the Emergency Preparedness, Search and Rescue, and Signs, Signals, and Codes merit badges. A Scout is Prepared, and these skills emphasize that by allowing them to be Ready in the event of an emergency and how to communicate with others when a cell phone isn’t viable. Scouts will participate in a staged Search and Rescue operation Friday morning to put these skills to the test!
The Tech-Savvy Pathway includes the Digital Technology, Programming, Electronics, and Robotics merit badges. In the ever-growing technological society we live in, these skills will allow Scouts to develop potential career skills in an extremely fun environment. Your Scouts will surely be even more Tech-Savvy when you head home after your week of adventure at CDB!
The Trail Foragers Pathway includes Goin’ Great Junior, Swimming, First Aid, Leatherwork, and Photography merit badges. This is uniquely designed for your First-Year campers as they start foraging their Trail to Eagle. They will work on Scout and Tenderfoot Rank requirements, begin their First Aid skill development, have fun making a knife pouch (for that knife they buy at the Trading Post after earning their Totin’ Chip), splash around in Lake Allen and memorialize their week with photography. The perfect combination that is sure to keep your Scout wanting more!
