Website Access

Getting access to our members site

We use Google groups to manage website access (as well as access to files and folders used for activity sign-ups, form submissions, etc.). To get access please send an email to webmaster@troop33.org and include your scout's name. You do not need a Google-backed email address (see "Are all Google accounts @gmail.com?" below) to be added to the troop mailing list, but you will need one to be able to log-in to the members website. Note that you are welcome to add multiple email addresses to the list if you'd like to receive emails at a non-Google account but use a Google account for access. Just let us know when you email us.

Setting up a Google email account

If you or your scout don't already have a Google-backed email address, you can set one up at accounts.google.com/signup

Turning off emails

If you have an account you are using only for website access and receiving the troop emails elsewhere, it's possible to turn off emails. To do that, log into the account you want to change and go to groups.google.com. Find the group you're receiving emails on , most likely joined20XX@troop33.org, but potentially scoutmasters@, committee@, or friends@. Choose the drop-down under "Subscription" and choose "No email."

Removing your email from the troop lists

Send an email to webmaster@troop33.org and we'll take care of it.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why can't I see the website?

You must be logged into your Google account in order to see members-only content.

Do I have to use Gmail?  I don't like it...

You can sign up for the mailing list with any email account. You do need a Google-backed account for website access.

Are all Google accounts @gmail.com?

Most Google accounts do end with @gmail.com but it is quite possible your account uses another email address.  In fact, almost any email address (including Yahoo and Comcast accounts) can be used as the username for a Google account.  This can be confusing since the email address is for a different domain, but it's still using Google services behind the curtains for authentication.  Moreover, people who work at companies that use Google for email can use their work accounts directly, even though they won't end in "@gmail.com".

How do I send email to all the troop members?

Email members@troop33.org. Keep in mind though that this list includes all parents and Scouts in the troop, all Scoutmasters, all Commmittee members, and a fair number of alumni. Be respectful!

What is my @troop33.org login?

Only troop leaders have @troop33.org accounts. You can see a list of who has an @troop33.org alias by visiting committee.troop33.org.
