Accelerated Reader (AR) is a computer program that helps teachers manage and monitor children’s independent reading practice. Your child picks a book at his or her own level and reads it at his or her own pace. When finished, your child takes a short quiz on the computer. (Passing the quiz is an indication that your child understood what was read.) Accelerated Reader gives children, teachers, and parents feedback based on the quiz results, which the teacher then uses to help your child set goals and direct ongoing reading practice. Each book is given a reading level and point level within the accelerated reading system. Points awarded are based on the percent of correctly answered questions .
Each quarter students will have individualized reading goals.
Except for 1st Quarter--- Each student will have a goal of 10 points to help get a baseline for each student's abilities.
Literature sets and books read as a whole class for read aloud will not count toward this goal as these goals will help students build upon their individualized reading skills.
This goal will account for 10% of your child's reading grade.

All homework assignments are graded, and then students are given the opportunity to correct with red pen for full credit. Homework is seen as practice. Tests will be a reflection of what students have learned. For this reason, tests will be weighted more heavily.
Tests will be given every five lessons with the first test being given after Lesson 10. A study guide will be sent home the day before before each test, and tests are formatted just like the homework assignments.
Math Homework: Most homework assignments are graded and corrected in class by the students. Daily homework assignments are given a completion grade in the the gradebook.
Tests: Test grades will be the primary basis of student grades. Retakes are available for most chapter tests.
IXL Skills: IXL assignments are given to supplement learning standards. Students may work on these at home or school.
