*Morning Work: Students start their morning with play, activities or seat work that practice fine motor skills, curriculum topics, social skills or builds creative skills
*Morning Carpet: We use the calendar as well as technology to practice counting and introduce and review curriculum. We also take the time to share our prayer requests and start our day in prayer. With our helper of the day leading the activities, each student gets a chance to practice their personal leadership skills and develop confidence.
*Snack: We have a healthy snack while chatting with friends and learning table manners.
*Lessons: We spend our lesson times learning in large group on the carpet, in small groups and at our tables. We use all different types of instruction -direct teacher lead instruction, partner learning with games or other hands on activities, student led instruction, whole group participation with our smart board, and good old fashioned pen and paper activities. We try to incorporate as many of these different ways for each topic we learn.
*Recess: A fun and important part of our day where students have time for free play with friends outside or in our gross motor room. We try to get the students outside for at least a few minutes everyday.
*Lunch: We get to join our Preschool 4 friends in the school cafeteria. Students can pack a lunch or purchase a hot lunch. Those purchasing hot lunch learn how to serve themselves from the fresh salad bar.
*Stories and Rest: K-prep students are still young so each afternoon we take some time to listen to stories and have quiet rest on nap mats. Some students sleep while others just use the time to let their bodies rest.
*Snack and Play: After rest we take time for a parent provided snack and free play in our room before finishing up our lessons.
*Jesus Time: Each day we spend time in God's word. We read, watch, and do crafts to learn Bible stories and talk about God's great love and forgiveness. We also learn about the different seasons and holidays of the church year. Closing each day with the Lord's prayer sets them up with a basis for a continued prayer life as they grow. Once a week our Jesus time is spent in chapel. This is either with other preschool classes or with the whole school.
*Specials: Depending on the day of the week we participate in all school opening, art, music, gym, and library.
Our curriculum is based on the goals of The Creative Curriculum for Preschool and the assessment tool GOLD. We use the Kindergarten Bridges math curriculum, the new Enduring Faith religion curriculum by CPH and Jolly Phonics. A combination of many sources are used for handwriting, fine motor and supplementing other skills.
We focus on fine motor skills, learning our letters and sounds, numbers and basic math skills, how to get along with friends and control our emotions. We enjoy learning literacy skills and basic science, social studies, and health topics.
Consistent communication is key to your child’s success at school. Weekly and monthly newsletters are sent home as well as optional enrichment activites. Email and ProCare allow for daily communication.
Parent-teacher conferences are held twice a year in the Fall and early Spring. During conference time, teachers will be prepared to discuss with you your child’s developmental progress, based on the goals and objectives of The Creative Curriculum for Preschool®.
