Why we need this?

Industry changes quickly and we as trainers of the new breed of professionals need to adapt rapidly to their needs. Industry experts work on the front line and have first-hand knowledge of what the real needs are for incoming talent to be able to integrate their academic skillset into enterprise requirements smoothly. Together with these experts, professors can ensure that students receive both academic and professional experience that will help them enter the job market successfully.

It is important that those in top Globalization positions, share their knowledge with professors and academic institutions. By assisting and influencing the academic curriculum with ideas of what current needs are in large enterprises, you can ensure that new talent will be appropriately trained. There is no better way to provide candidates with the correct skillset.

What we do?

We want to encourage communication between enterprise clients and our Professors group as to what type of skills and knowledge base they are looking for and create opportunities for collaboration with Academic Institutions where university programs can respond with adding courses and expanding their curriculum to meet industry demand.

We aim to create a framework to facilitate communications in such a way that we have tangible results.

By creating Working groups we hope to gather enough information from industry professionals to pass on to Professors. For example, one of the deliverables of the Working groups can be a list of skillset needs for a graduate.

Through our framework of Webinars we will be adding Industry professionals giving guest lectures to various universities.

We also intend to create a job-posting page and encourage enterprises to create internship opportunities for current students and new graduates. As part of the Translation Commons commitment to Mentoring, we will be creating Best Practices for Internship programs as well as other projects that the community asks for.

What you can do

Join one of the following groups:

• Language Technology Curriculum Task Force, creating a complete outline of the ideal curriculum, reflecting current Industry needs and helping professors identify gaps in their courses
• Internship Best Practices Task Force, creating guidelines for companies to follow in their Internship Program as well as explain expectations to future interns
