The College Early Start program allows students to enroll in classes at San Joaquin Delta College while still in high school. At Millennium, we encourage students to take classes at Delta during Fast Track and during the year beginning as early as spring of their freshman year and when their school schedule allows. Grades in high school classes are most important, and only students earning A’s and B’s in their high school classes will be approved to take a college class. The classes should be geared toward meeting a general education requirement for a four-year college, but can also be an opportunity to explore different areas of study.
A student can receive 10 high school elective credits for each class successfully completed through College Early Start as well as credit at San Joaquin Delta College. Delta College classes are included on the high school transcript, are weighted within the high school GPA, and affects MHS athletic eligibility.
All students must meet San Joaquin Delta College’s admissions and course prerequisite requirements. College Early Start students may not enroll in remedial or developmental education courses. Registration is limited to 11.0 units maximum during a semester.
Delta College courses are offered to high school students without fees, so they are free! Students/families will still need to pay for books and materials. Students who earn a B (not a B-) or higher in a Delta class are eligible for a $100 scholarship per class, per semester. All they need to do is complete a Google Form after grades post, which will include proof of the grade they earned.
At least 1 in 8 California high school seniors take community college courses while still in high school, an increasingly popular strategy that gives students a head start on their college careers, and has been shown to boost both high school and college graduation rates.
