World History- Syllabus

Welcome to World History I and II. Taken in succession, this course will cover world history starting around 3000 B.C.E., where we will examine the establishment of major religious movements, move forward through the Middle Ages and investigate how major movements from around the world mirrored one another. Second semester will focus on history from the mid-18th Century on; where we will examine the major social, political, and economic movements that have shaped the past three centuries, and how they have affected life today.
Students will be expected to bring all the proper materials with them to class every day (notebook, computers, pens/pencils, folders, books, and handouts) unless told otherwise by myself. Students will need to be able to check Schoology for assignments, and due dates from time to time. Your phone is not a necessity for class!
Your grade in this class will be divided into three different categories:
-Tests and Quizzes (35%)
-Homework (35%)
-PACE (30%)

Attendance
Courteousness
Effort
PACE scores can earn you up to 50 points per 2 week (5 per day), and are earned through your behavior in class. Points will be deducted for bothering others, not paying attention, not being ready for class, not completing assignments.
All assignments must be turned in on time in order to receive full credit for them. Students who have questions about their grade can make an appointment with me before or after school, or can visit me during my prep hour(4th).
It is also important that students have read and understand the student handbook and the policies in it.
Students can look on Schoology for updates on class, potential handouts, schedule of future events, etc.
Students in my classroom or under my supervision will follow one simple rule: RESPECT. I expect students to respect each other, themselves, teachers(regular/substitute), property of Tracy Schools, and the policies and procedures that have been set forth by them.
I understand that sometimes we might not follow the rules, and it's important to have a clear plan in place. Here's my approach, which is all about guiding you toward success while keeping our classroom a great place to learn.
Step 1: The Verbal Reminder
If I see that you're not following a rule, I'll start with a private, gentle reminder. It's just a quick heads-up to help you get back on track.
Step 2: A Warning and a Chat
If the behavior continues, I'll give you a formal warning. We'll have a brief, private chat after class to talk about what's happening and how we can prevent it from becoming a bigger issue.
Step 3: Detention and Reflection
If the behavior persists, it's a sign we need to hit the reset button. I'll assign you a detention. This time isn't meant to be punishment; it's an opportunity for you to reflect on your choices and for us to have a more in-depth conversation about a better path forward.
Step 4: Partnering for Your Success
When an issue continues despite our best efforts, it's clear we need to bring in more support. At this point, I'll schedule a conference with your parents, the principal, and me. This isn't about getting you in trouble; it's about forming a team—a support system—to ensure you have everything you need to succeed in my class.
