Year Two Weekly Update
Monday 14th January - Friday 18th January
Review (This week)
English : We have focused on reading comprehension, spelling, punctuation and grammar as well as putting ourselves in Zahra's shoes to find out how it feels carrying water in a hot climate.
Maths : We have looked at 2D shape properties and solved problems involving 2D shape.
Science: We have introduced our new topic of 'Light & Dark'.
Preview (Next week)
English : We will be using our senses to write description based on Zahra.
Maths : We will learn about 3D shape properties and problem solving.
Science: We will be learning about what a light source is; identifying light sources and differentiating between dim and bright light.
Zahra
We walked around the running track carrying bottled water. We were hot and sticky when we finished. Now, we know what Zahra feels like.
Light and Dark
We have kicked off our Science module with our Dark Room. We have thought about what light and dark are and we particularly enjoyed our 'Light and Dark Walk' around the school.
Hot Air Balloon Art
We have finished our Art module on how to make a papier mache hot air balloon. We are super proud of our finished pieces.
world book day
We had a fantastic day celebrating books and authors on World Book Day. We enjoyed 'Secret Storytelling', a costume parade, origami book marks and a story-themed assembly.
Ancient Egypt
This week we thought about how long ago Ancient Egypt was and how long the civilisation lasted. We made a timeline in the playground to help us visualise it:
Some of us have been learning alternative pronounciations for the letter 'a' in Phonics:
We're enjoying learning about 2D shapes!
Homework :
Maths: 2-D shape activity on MyiMaths or glued into your homework book.
English: 'I love to read about...' sheet.
Spellings: Week 2
Please make sure you are reading with your child and writing in their Reading Records.
Notices:
- Please send your child into school with their hats, water bottles and folders.
- Please send in any unwanted shoe boxes for a science investigation!
- We would like to remind you all, that the EYFS and Key Stage 1 Sports Day will be held on Friday, 25th of January 2019. This will take place on the school field and running track from 8:45 am- 10:30 am. Students need to wear their house uniform.
PE is on Monday and Thursday (they may wear their kit all day).
Swimming is on Tuesday (please label their kit, goggles and cap with their name).
