We will be gathering data using assessments at the beginning and end of the school year.
To assess teacher math anxiety, we are using the Math Anxiety Scale for Teachers, which gathers data on both generalized math anxiety and anxiety about teaching mathematics. We are also gathering some data on beliefs about teaching mathematics.
Please note: WE ARE NOT USING THIS DATA TO SINGLE OUT ANY SPECIFIC INDIVIDUAL. WE WILL BE LOOKING AT AGGREGATE DATA AND TRENDS ONLY.
We will be using the modified Abbreviated Math Anxiety Scale (mAMAS) to assess student math anxiety. The assessment is very short (9 questions) and uses simple language appropriate for elementary school students. It will be given at the beginning and end of the school year.
Students in Kindergarten will be interviewed one-on-one using these questions.
Students in grade 1 will be given a numbered and color-coded answer sheet. The teacher will read the questions aloud.
Students in grades 2-5 will be given an assessment that includes the questions printed on the page. It is at the teacher's discretion if they would like to also read the questions aloud or ask the students to read quietly to themselves.
Please note: WE ARE NOT USING THIS DATA TO SINGLE OUT ANY SPECIFIC INDIVIDUAL. WE WILL BE LOOKING AT AGGREGATE DATA AND TRENDS ONLY.
