December 9-10, 2023 (Sat. - Sun.)

International Symposium "The Formation of the Relationship between Modern Japan and the Islamic World

The year 2023 commemorates the 100th anniversary of the establishment of the Republic of Turkey, while the upcoming year 2024 will also mark the centenary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Japan and Turkey, which signified the initial foray of the Japanese diplomacy into the Islamic World.

To delve into the historical ties between Modern Japan and the Islamic World, we are pleased to announce a two-day international symposium centered around the general theme "The Formation of the Relationship between Modern Japan and the Islamic World."

In Part I on December 9th, under the sub-theme "Modern Japanese Images about Turkey," we will explore how Modern Japan depicted and represented Turkey from various viewpoints.

In Part II on December 10th, under the sub-theme "The Archive of the Source Materials about the Greater Japan Muslim League," we will take a more specifically focused approach by examining the historical materials concerning the Greater Japan Muslim Leagues, which serve as the paramount and fundamental sources for comprehending the relationship between Modern Japan and the Islamic World.
