Educational and research collaboration with Sultan Qaboos University

The Bio-Nano Electronics Research Centre (BNERC) and the Graduate School of Interdisciplinary New Science (IdNS) exchanged a Letter of Understanding (LOU) for the development of collaborative research and educational programmes with the College of Science, Sultan Qaboos University, the Sultanate of Oman, on 9th October 2014.

Six delegates from Sultan Qaboos University including His Excellency Dr. Ali Al-Bemani (Vice-Chancellor), Her Highness Dr. Mona Fahad Al-Said (Assistant Vice-Chancellor) and Dr. Salim Al-Harthi (Co-Director of Academic Innovation Programmes) visited the Bio-Nano Electronics Research Centre to participate in the Ceremony of signing the LOU and discuss short- and intermediate-term specific collaborative programmes such as an exchange of students, researchers and administrative officers and collaborative research on bioscience based on nanotechnology.

One technical researcher will visit the BNERC in December to develop some collaborative programmes related to electron microscopes. Note that the BNERC has accepted quite a few graduate students from overseas universities and carried out some academic internship programmes for them. Five students received their Ph.D’s from their universities based on the studies they carried out at the Centre.

Background

Professor Toru Maekawa (Director, BNERC), Professor Tatsuro Hanajiri (Dean, Graduate School of IdNS) and Dr. Takashi Uchida gave lectures at the International Nanotechnology Seminar held at Sultan Qaboos University in Muscat, Oman, on 17th September 2014. Those three researchers, Mr. Kiyotaka Takahashi (Administrative Head, Presidential Office) and Mr. Hiroyuki Fukamachi (Administrative Head, Graduate School of IdNS) discussed future collaboration on research and education with professors, researchers and administrative officers of Sultan Qaboos University after the Seminar and agreed on the exchange of an LOU.
