Young Enterprise, the national financial and enterprise education charity, and AAT (The Association of Accounting Technicians), the UK’s leading qualification and professional membership body for vocational accountants have teamed up to talk to you about entrepreneurship!

National Careers Week 2024

This National Careers Week, we are celebrating the range of NHS career opportunities. In fact, there are more than 350 on offer.

The NHS will also be expanding its workforce over the next 15 years with increasing opportunities for young people to kickstart their NHS career. The NHS Long Term Workforce Plan was launched last June and sets out how the NHS will ensure it has the workforce it needs for the future.

Let me break down the headlines for you!

• Adult nurse training places will increase to 38,000 by 2031/32 – a 92% increase. Mental health and learning disability nurse training places are also set to increase. 

• Increase in apprenticeships, working towards nearly a quarter of clinical staff training via an apprenticeship route (currently 7%) and the number of apprenticeships tripling overall.

• A doctor degree apprenticeship being introduced.

• More nursing associates (a fantastic route to registered nursing) and physician associates.

And it’s definitely not all about degrees. There’ll be more healthcare support worker opportunities with progression via apprenticeships also available.

Finally, if a patient-facing role isn’t the right thing there will be more opportunities in digital roles as well as estates and facilities and many others. 

There’ll be many opportunities for your students over the coming months and years with increasingly flexible training routes and pathways.

The Sutton Trust

Since our partnership began, we have worked together to support young people across the UK; offering them access to important opportunities and providing a robust pathway into the sector.

• Since 2020, 90 SMF students have participated in a Insight Week with NatWest, across Easter and Summer holidays.

• In 2021, 29 Sixth Form students able to access prestigious and highly sought-after work placements with NatWest Group. In 2022, this increased to 34 students over April and August and 2023 saw 27 SMF students participating. More students will have access this year, following a new hybrid format.

• Insight Weeks have helped our students to gain firsthand insights and experience working at one of the UK’s top banks, building their networks and developing their CVs to set them up for a bright future ahead.

At Career Ready we believe that every young person should have the opportunity to kickstart a rewarding future. In partnership with employers, we deliver a programme of paid internships and mentoring that enable young people from under-represented backgrounds to develop the skills, self-esteem, and support networks to achieve their potential in life.

Tech she can

Celebrate National Careers Week and British Science Week with free resources created by the charity Tech She Can to explore technology and inspire pupils.

In two new interactive lessons, pupils will be taken on a journey to:

Explore transport of the future and  delve into the world of wearable tech in sport!

• Lessons for Key Stage 2/ Primary 4-7 (Age 7-11) and Key Stage 3/ S1-3 (Age 11-14)
