National Career's Week

National Careers Week (NCW) is a celebration of careers guidance and free resources in education across the UK. The aim is to provide a focus for careers guidance activity at an important stage in the academic calendar to help support young people leaving education.

Careers Week encourages education providers to bring together students, local employers and advisers through careers events and activities. During National Careers Week it is up to every school, academy and college to oer careers advice and guidance to their students. We are here to help and can provide free resources, information on current career opportunities and advice on activities and exercises to run.

To download all of our free resources just head over to the NCW website: Welcome - National Careers Week

We’ll have themed days from Monday-Friday during NCW. We'd love for you to join us each morning throughout the week, but if that's not possible the content can be explored at a day or time that suits you better. The themes will include the content mentioned above, and more. Here's what's planned for each day:

Join Radio 1 presenter Katie Thistleton for this new video podcast. Get your classes to watch and play along in form time or as a lesson starter. There are activities for students to join in with as we chat to big name guests and careers experts about how to figure out your future career. These can be watched in class or at home via the ‘Tips and Inspiration’  section of the Bitesize Careers website.

Young Enterprise, the national financial and enterprise education charity, and AAT (The Association of Accounting Technicians), the UK’s leading qualification and professional membership body for vocational accountants have teamed up to talk to you about entrepreneurship!

We are showcasing opportunities for young people to develop enterprise skills while still in school, as well as how school leavers can access practical next steps into entrepreneurship by considering financial careers with support from AAT.

National Careers Week 2024

Tuesday - Sponsored by NHS Health Careers

This National Careers Week, we are celebrating the range of NHS career opportunities. In fact, there are more than 350 on offer.

The NHS will also be expanding its workforce over the next 15 years with increasing opportunities for young people to kickstart their NHS career. The NHS Long Term Workforce Plan was launched last June and sets out how the NHS will ensure it has the workforce it needs for the future.

Let me break down the headlines for you!

And it’s definitely not all about degrees. There’ll be more healthcare support worker opportunities with progression via apprenticeships also available.

Finally, if a patient-facing role isn’t the right thing there will be more opportunities in digital roles as well as estates and facilities and many others.

There’ll be many opportunities for your students over the coming months and years with increasingly flexible training routes and pathways.

Take a look at the NHS Health Careers website and keep following them on social media for updates and live events for you and your students/clients.

Happy National Careers Week 2024!

Insights Experience

“Our insight experiences are your chance to get a flavour of what it’s like working here and to discover how to develop a career that makes a difference. You’ll learn about the different internships we’ll run, and we’ll help you secure an internship for 2025.”

The Sutton Trust

Since our partnership began, we have worked together to support young people across the UK; offering them access to important opportunities and providing a robust pathway into the sector.

“I understood that there is no one golden pathway into banking & finance. Seeing people in one company having so many different journeys into these careers was comforting. As I had spent so long trying to perfect my career path, I didn’t leave myself space to do anything different – until this experience! -An Aspiring Professionals Programme student on a NatWest Insight Week

CareerReady

At Career Ready we believe that every young person should have the opportunity to kickstart a rewarding future. In partnership with employers, we deliver a programme of paid internships and mentoring that enable young people from under-represented backgrounds to develop the skills, self-esteem, and support networks to achieve their potential in life.

“Career Ready helped guide me on the right path towards my future career. I gained so much confidence and team working skills from taking part in Career Ready. I’m now a lot more confident than I ever felt possible.” – Zoe, student from Glasgow

“My mentee’s confidence was boosted in a really significant way during the Career Ready programme. This was one of the key things they wanted to get out of the programme so I was glad to play a part in helping them to achieve it. I could see a real difference in their communication, networking, and collaboration skills.” – Tom MacDonald, Glasgow, mentor from NatWest Group

“The best thing that happened during my internship at NatWest was meeting and getting to know new people. Everyone was so lovely and I truly felt part of the team. It was so nice hearing different people’s career paths. Having the chance to talk to new people and introduce myself to strangers gave me such a big boost in my communication skills and confidence.” – Saffa, student from Birmingham
