Rodney Bay, St. Lucia

(23-Feb-2016)

Hello from Rodney Bay St. Lucia. Yesterday we sailed 80-90 miles from Bequia past two large islands , St. Vincent and St. Lucia - took 11 hrs. Problem is that we sailed in the lee of both islands. Won’t do that again! In the 20-30 mile open water between the islands we hauled ass with the wind on the beam directly from the east with 5-7 ft. seas we were making 8-10 knots. Yahoo! Then as we got into the lee of the next island the sea got smooth, and the wind went all over the place from 0 to 25 knots in different directions as it was blocked or curved around the high hills of the island. So, Marvin rolled up the flogging headsail, then rolled it out a few minutes later, then rolled it in, etc. etc. Really happy to get the anchor down at 6PM just in time for a quick swim and happy hour. Woke up this morning to a heavy, heavy sermon from the village church loud speaker. Maybe the same one that boomed out the music?? last night. Luckily I don’t hear well. There are about 70 boats from many countries anchored in this large bay. We have a Canadian flagged boat on each side of us. The one on our starboard side is also flying a Scottish pendent so we will stop by on our way ashore. He will surely be from Vancouver.
