South Hams CVS fund art sessions for Sasha clients
In February 2022 CVS provided a small grant to enable clients to access art based activities. Our objective was to introduce an opportunity for our clients to do these art sessions which brought benefits such as, being able to relax and do something they normally wouldn’t, to do so in a safe environment and to develop an interest that invests in themselves and their own wellbeing.
We recognize that spending time being creative leads to relaxation and nourishes us as individuals. The opportunity that this has given our clients is to do something that they don’t normally have in their lives as they are often in the role of carer, being mothers and having to cope with the trauma domestic violence and abuse leaves with them. Showing it is ok to spend time on themselves is invaluable.
The feedback was really positive from our clients; “That was such a nice to do, I don’t get the chance to do things like this very often” “this is very relaxing”. Following the end of the session some clients took materials home with them to do further creating and some even continued taking classes.
