Multi-Tiered Systems of Support

MTSS is a framework that our schools use to provide targeted support to students that have unfinished learning. Our focus is how to best assist and guide the growth of the whole child. MTSS creates wrap around supports to promote student growth and achievement.

MTSS Manual

A committee created the Torrington Public Schools MTSS Manual. At its core, the Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) Framework is a problem-solving model that is designed to provide interventions as soon as it becomes apparent that such interventions are necessary. By providing interventions as early as possible, as consistently as possible, and with as much precision as possible, students are given what they need. With this goal in mind, each tier is defined not by specific locations, actions, or interventions, but by purpose. The overarching purpose of each individual tier is to increase the intensity and frequency of the intervention of the previous tier in order to close the gap between a student’s current level of performance relative to standard.
