Southwest's Completed Mural
Southwest School is participating in the Global Traveling Mural Project for the third year in a row.
The Traveling Mural is a global art project where schools create murals, cut them into pieces, and send the pieces to other schools around the world.
Southwest's third-grade students built a 10-foot art piece. The completed work will be separated into 10 pieces of which nine pieces will be shared with schools who have partnered with our group.
One piece of our Southwest mural will be saved to a create new mural after our participating schools mail us their mural pieces to create an entirely new piece of art. Our partner schools in the mural are from Texas, Missouri, Indiana, Georgia, Florida & Maryland. To date, 160 schools worldwide have committed to the project.
Southwest's 75 third-grade students each made their mark on the mural by working on at least one of 90 sections of the project measuring 4x11 inches. Guided by our art teacher, Mrs. Zwack, the students learned about the art technique of Romero Britto well-known for his pop art style. Students used neon colored markers to create their unique designs.
On background, a Midwest media specialist started the mural project in 2018, as a way to help connect with other school communities around the world “to create murals of peace, friendship, diversity and love.”
