Artistic Endeavors

Sienna's art

Sienna

Sienna originally planned to work on her acting. When she landed the role she wanted in the play, she switched her goal to improving her art. Here are three of the pieces she made.

Noah's independent project

Noah

Over the past three weeks, Noah set out towards his ambitious goal of creating a drawing of an animal a day. His first focus was "big cats". Take a look at his results here.

Max's photoshopping

Max

Max's goal was to teach himself how to use photo editing software to put a face in a washing machine. He used no tutorials and looked up no instructions. He succeeded!

Reuben

Reuben worked on his filmaking skills by creating short films and trailers. Here is one of his masterpieces.

Gwyneth's Digital Paintings

Gwyneth

Gwyneth aimed to build up her digital illustration skills during quarantine. Here are a couple of her finished pieces, including a re-imagined modern day Cinderella.

Timo's Photo Edits

Timo

Timo doubled down on the independent project and worked on two goals simultaneously; learning how to ollie on his skateboard and making two photo edits a week. Check out his photo edits here, and head to the physical challenges page to see him in action with his skate tricks.

Kayla's Drawings

Kayla

Kayla's goal was to push herself to draw. She's been working on developing different styles and techniques with some colorful results! Check out the progress shots she included of one of her drawings.

Alice's Drawings

Alice

Drawing helps Alice feel more relaxed and mindful, which maybe explains why her goal was to complete new drawings every week. Alice experimented with new challenges, finding the inspiration to create these original illustrations.

Olivia's Drawings

Olivia

Olivia set her sights on completing a project that's been a while in the making. Her goal is to illustrate all 30 characters from a story/role play game that she created with her best friend. She's been tackling new challenges like drawing curly hair and capturing different eye shapes. Great start Liv!

Luella's Progress

Luella

Luella's goal is to give this mannequin head a complete makeover with a new paint job. The foam required a little repair, and Luella has been using papier mache to whip her form back into shape. Way to put a dent in, by taking the dents out Luella.

Eden's Drawings

Eden

Eden wanted to prioritize her free time to gain more confidence as an artist. She's been busy drawing and intends to watercolor her pieces. Although the delivery of her paints has been delayed, her drawings are showing progress. Can't wait for the color!

Iggy

Iggy's goal was to gather his photographs into a digital portfolio reel with original music. He worked hard to score this video, showing determination when troubleshooting how to add his recorded music to his footage. Check out his efforts here.

Charlotte's Flowers

Charlotte

Charlotte wanted to create a comfortable attitude towards her art and create a drawing challenge to build her confidence. Her goal was to draw sunflowers for 15 minutes a day. Making mistakes often frustrates her, however Charlotte was able to keep her drawings without scrapping them immediately!

Lorelei

Lorelei's goal was to develop her animation skills. She's been wanting to improve, specifically on her comedic timing. During the project, Lorelei practiced ways to sync up sound with the animated movements to build better visual jokes and make her work funnier overall.

Noam

Noam set out to take advantage of his mom's home ceramic studio for his independent project. Noam's focus was to learn directly from an expert potter, and bond with his mom during the process. His goal was to create 3 finished ceramic works.

Round Two Projects: Here are the results from our second round of independent art projects from May-June.

Medby's Drawings

Medby

Medby diligently honed in on improving his drawing by practicing using reference. Each week, he focused on drawing the same subject 3 times, tracking the differences in his work.

Sienna's Drawings

Sienna

Keeping the momentum up from the first Independent Project, Sienna continued to practice her drawing, experimenting with different prompts each week!

Iggy

Iggy pushed his goal from the first week to develop his own photography into a creative enterprise. Iggy has found a company to print his images into postcards, and is donating a portion of the proceeds of his photos to Homeboy Industries, a local organization that gives support to the formerly incarcerated.

Kayla's work

Kayla

Kayla kept working on her drawing skills this round, and was inspired to take some risks with her techniques. She even took strides to begin creating her own unique character using reference!

Eden's Hawaii Trip

Eden

Eden pushed herself to develop a series of pictures inspired by the times of day during her visit to Hawaii. Her goal was to catalogue her trip and play with new angles, lighting, and perspectives for her imagery. Take a look at the moments she collected here.

Lorelei

Lorelei aimed to build her fluency designing original characters using both digital and analog drawing tools.

Ella

Ella wanted to improve her ability to draw people. She set out to complete two drawings each week to track her progress.
