TSIA2 Exam Information
The TSIA2 exam is commonly used for placement testing among community colleges, as well as many four-year colleges and universities. The TSIA2 may be taken in its entirety (ELAR and math) or taken in sections, ELAR or math, depending on what the student needs to meet the college readiness benchmark. Meeting the college readiness benchmark means that the student can be placed directly in a college-level course. If the student scores below this benchmark score, the student will be required to either take a developmental course as a corequisite with the college level course or complete the developmental course prior to taking the college-level course. All of this can be discussed with the student's college academic advisor.
The TSIA2 is an untimed test and can be taken as many times as needed. The average cost for the exam is $29 for the entire test. If f the student needs only the ELAR (reading/writing) the cost is $20 ($10 for ELAR multiple choice only, $10 for essay only, or $20 for the entire ELAR section). If the student only needs the math section the cost is $10. Check with the college/university for their specific pricing.
Students needing the TSIA2 exam who are attending a college or university that is not Lone Star College can take the TSIA2 at Lone Star College, which is of course close to home. The student would need to contact the admissions office of the college/university they plan to attend and request a testing voucher to test at a different location. The student would then follow their college/university's instructions. In general, unless the college/university has given a specific timeline to submit TSIA2 scores, the student would need to provide scores prior to attending their college/university New Student Orientation in which they will meet with their academic advisor.
