Presentation Title: Elderly Care in Japanese Cultural Context and Touch Care
Dr. Abe's presentation will focus on the characteristics of care rooted in Japanese culture. He will explain the attitude of care workers that derives from inner self and how that shows in care thru touching.
Before Dr. Abe joined Tokai University, he had over 20 years of experience as a practitioner. His practice was with a psychiatric hospital specialized in alcoholism. He spent 15 years as a care worker, a case manager and took a role in management. He earned his doctoral degree in sociology, and his research topics include ethos of care workers and organizational management.

Presentation Title: Quality of Life and Elderly Care in Denmark: How to support frail elderlies the best
The talk will focus on traditional, and a current paradigm-shift in, Danish Elderly Care in order to support home dwelling people and nursing home residents to maintain a daily life with structure, security, content and quality of life. The talk will provide examples of current initiatives involving technology and discuss advantages and disadvantages of digitalization in Danish elderly care.
Rikke Gregersen is the research manager of the Dementia Program at the Research Center of Health & Welfare Technology at VIA University College. The research team is doing applied dementia research within the field of psychosocial interventions and interventions stimulating cognition in people with dementia. The research aims to qualify the professional care in order to improve independence and quality of life in persons with dementia and their families. She has more than 25 years of experience with research and education in the field of neuroscience, rehabilitation and elderly care. In 2019, she was awarded the honour prize “The clinical researcher of the Year” from the Danish Alzheimer`s Research Fund.
