Student Lifestyle in Waikiki
Student Lifestyle in Waikiki
By Y. O.
I am a newsletter team member editor living in Waikiki, far from HTIC. In this article, I will share with you the advantages and disadvantages of moving to Hawaii and living in Hawaii based on my experience of living in Hawaii for about two years. Currently, I am living in Waikiki.
Living in Waikiki
There are a great many people who travel to Waikiki every year with their families or on their honeymoon, so you find many tourists. Also, there are many international students living and working in the area, and it is easy for international students to fit in and live there, so some may want to live there at least once. When people think of Hawaii, the clear blue ocean is the first thing that comes to mind, and Waikiki Beach is most famous.
Advantages of Living in Waikiki
Easy lifestyle.
Enjoy the ocean at Waikiki Beach and mountain recreation at Diamond Head.
Easy for Japanese to get used to: there are many Japanese restaurants.
Stress is reduced by nature.
Relatively safe.
Sunset at Waikiki.
Disadvantages of Living in Waikiki
The cost of living is high, 1.5~2 times higher than in Japan.
Rent is a particular bottleneck, as it is about twice as much as in Japan. If you share a condominium (private room), the monthly rent is about $800.
If you imagine a life like celebrities and some rich people, you will be disappointed by the gap.
Volunteer Work during the Weekend: Collecting Plastic from the Beach & Creating New Things
I went to Sherwood Beach with my newsletter team member, Masaki, to join a volunteer activity. We collected micro plastics to clean the beach. This video introduces making products with plastics we collect. That was fun! If you want to create these products, please contact the newsletter team members!
