What is Aratiatia dam? Aratiatia Rapids is one of the most popular natural attractions in New Zealand’s North Island. Thousands of liters of water rush from the dam gates to transform the peaceful gully into raging rapids. There a number of diferents spots where you can watch the rapids from. The dam opens at 10am, 12pm, 2pm, and 4pm in the summer and then 10am, 12pm, and 2pm in the winter.
