English 1 Reading List:
- 1st 6 Weeks: Short Stories and Literary text from various in-class sources
- 2nd 6 Weeks: Expository text from various in-class sources
- 3rd 6 Weeks: Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck (students must purchase their own copy) *
- 4th 6 Weeks: Night by Elie Wiesel (students must purchase their own copy)*
- 5th 6 Weeks: The Five People you Meet in Heaven by Mitch Albom (students must purchase their own copy)*
- 6th 6 Weeks: The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare (text is provided in class, but students will benefit from purchasing a copy of Romeo and Juliet: No Fear Shakespeare)**
*Students will need to purchase their own novel during the 3rd, 4th, and 5th 6 week periods. While some copies of the text will be available in class, having their own copy of the text that they are able to take notes in, and access at home is incredibly beneficial for all students. 3 weeks prior to reading the novel, the TM English 1 teachers will take orders for students wishing to purchase a book through the school (cash only.) Notice will be sent home when these orders are taken. Otherwise, books may be obtained from former students, school or public library, Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Half Price Books, etc.
**Students will be provided with the text to Romeo and Juliet in our textbook in the classroom. However, the No Fear Shakespeare version provides a translation of the original text that will aid in student understanding. While this is not a required text, I encourage each student to try to get ahold of a copy.
