The Purple Crow Butterfly Project
Motivation
Unlike in the previous years, for the 2024 academic year, students were engaged in a project that focused on a special species in Taiwan: Purpose Crow Butterflies. The project arose as a result of the "2024 Sister-School Project" in TLHC. Tasks assigned in this Presentation Class prepared students for online exchange with students in another country. In short, this class made some contribution as a collaborative force and at the same time accomplished what it should accomplish.
What are purple crow butterflies?
Taiwan’s Purple Crow Butterflies are one of the two winter-migrating butterflies in he world, the other being the Mexican Monarchs. Purple Crow Butterflies thrive in subtropical gorges under 500 meters, staying active from morning to night in sunny, rain-free weather. Every year, as winter approaches, crow butterflies migrate south. Hundreds of thousands gather in Taiwan’s tropical valleys to spend the winter, creating a magical sight. When the weather warms up, they head north again. In some areas, over 10,000 butterflies fly across highways each minute, making for an incredible spectacle.
What did students accomplished?
Students formed groups and study difference aspects of this species, including what they are, what their lives are like, how they migrate, what steps have been taken to protect them, etc. Completion of the tasks in this course prepares them for online exchange with students in another country, under the direction of the "Sister-School Project" in TLHC. Students gathered information, recorded it on their own Google Sites, created slides based on their findings, and finally dubbed them to produce videos that could be played online.
The results are displayed as follows:
