Dear Families,
What an absolutely fabulous group of learners! It has been such a joy getting to know your children; they are curious, fun, and hard working. This week, we will officially begin diving into our curriculum. We will be sending home the homework for this week with directions included. This is a practice week, not graded, for getting to better understand the expectations for the homework for the remainder of the year. I will cover more, and clarify more, at Back to School night this Thursday.
Back-to-School Night is this Thursday From 6-7:30!
What We’re Learning
Bible: Bible Overview
Math: Repeated addition with grouping building to multiplication
Writing: Getting to know each other, summer writing sharing, writers workshop- response to questions, poetry, and more
Science: How are pencils made? Treating our learning tools with care
Spelling: Practice homework words

Monday - PE
Tuesday - STEAM and Spanish (Our wonderful teacher will begin with middle school, and elementary will begin shortly after)

*On Mondays and Thursdays, please send your child to school in appropriate shoes for PE.
Ways to study for your math facts at home:
The classic- make flashcards- they really work! It can be helpful to have a set in the car and one at home.
Call-outs while you drive! Test your child on their facts as you drive- they don't even need flashcards for this.
Multiplication Songs- There are so many youtube videos with multiplication songs- just search for "multiplication song for x2" or whatever fact your child is on. Here are a couple that we use in class: x2 Song-Can't stop the feeling, x3 multiplication song, x4/multiples of 4 rap
Can you Beat the Clock? This is a paper to help your child practice with a time limit. Please note, this paper doesn't include x11 or x12. This paper is given to students to use at home or in the classroom upon request, it will not typically be sent home.

Homework Expectations
-Student responsibility.
-Students get homework packets on Friday and are expected to be turned in the following Friday morning.
-Homework shouldn't exceed 30 minutes each night, excluding reading minutes.
-Read minimum 20 minutes and fill out daily parent/guardian signed reading log.
I will check their logs each morning.
-If they pass their AR goal by the end of the quarter, they are invited to go to the AR party!
-Nightly HW includes: spelling activity (choose 1 each night--if it can be written please attach paper to the packet), math spiral review page (5 problems a night), math facts practice (options include: flash cards/verbal practice/website/etc) this Friday is a x2’s 1.5 minute timed test, memory verse practice (Matthew 5:1-2), and signed reading log each night.
-Binders will be the home for student planners, math facts, spelling activities, and daily reading log.

We made it! Our first week of third grade is complete and we are coming up on week 2. This past week I had the students practice doing some of their homework activities in class. I did not correct their homework as it was just practice. We took a practice spelling test and multiplication test today just to get our jitters out.
Next week we start with our normal homework routine. We will also be discussing it during Back-to-School-Night. If you have any questions about homework, please feel free to email me or message me on our class Bloomz site.
Homework Nightly Expectations
1. Spelling Activity: Please record by writing in the comments section what you did and attach it, if it is a written assignment. For example 3x each. I collect the spelling packet on Fridays.
2. Math Facts: You can make flash cards, practice verbally, or find a good website/APP to practice your Multiplication level.
3. Spiral Review: This is the math paper that has the apples at the top. There are 20 problems total for the week, so an average of 5 per night, but you may choose to do more. I collect it only on Fridays.
4. Memory Verse: Practice a few times each night and by Friday you will be golden!
5. Reading 20 minutes: Your child is expected to read nightly. I will be checking their minutes daily. (20 minutes each day Mon. - Fri.)
Your child will be bringing home their homework packet tonight and they turn it back in the following Friday. Hopefully with a good routine it shouldn’t take more than 30 minutes average per night (not including the reading portion). As a reminder, homework is designed to be a review of what we have learned in class. No new content that has not been previously introduced will be included.
Please access and read our Parent-Student Handbook for 2026-2027. This handbook is not all-inclusive, and changes will continue to be communicated to you during the school year. There is an electronic copy on www.tlcs.us and there are a few paper copies in the school office if you need one. Hopefully it is full of important and useful information.
