In order for the Seminar program to be successful, it will require students to be intentional about their choices and use this time purposefully. Therefore, we have created a list of student expectations for this time.
Student Expectations
All students will sign up for a session for Seminar on Mondays. Students will make their selections for Tuesday and Thursday that week. Students will make their selections with a purpose (choose the Seminar session that you need). Students will use a program called Adaptive Scheduler to make their selections. This will be done right in the student’s PowerSchool account.
Even though students will self-select their sessions, teachers reserve the right to override their selection and require them to report to their rooms for additional support. For example, if a student fails a test, the teacher may invite them in for a re-teaching session, even though they had signed up for a homework room. Although we do want to foster student choice and self-advocacy with this program, in cases such as these, we will intervene, for the benefit of the student, where necessary.
All students will report directly to their Seminar selection following second period on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
Students will check their email. Confirmation for Seminar selections will be sent to students’ emails each week. Students can also view their seminar schedule through Adaptive Scheduler in PowerSchool.
Students will be engaged in the chosen/assigned activities during Seminar. Seminar is not a free hour— students need to be working on something academic. Students may utilize Seminar to access Khan Academy for SAT prep and work on their EDP activities.
If a student’s grade is below 70%, they should be seeking out intervention from their teachers.
If a student has a D or an F in any class, they will not be allowed to select an enrichment activity. They will be required to participate in an intervention/support activity to improve their grade(s).
