Plant-it! 

This unit, we are diving into the wonderful world of plants! We will discover how to grow healthy plants and explore the fascinating life cycle of a plant, from tiny seed to fully grown plant.

We’ll investigate how seeds travel through seed dispersal, learn about the different parts of a plant and their important functions, and understand how plants depend on other living things (and how other living things depend on them too!).

Our learning doesn’t stop there! We will explore where our plant-based food grows, how plants become the food we eat, and the difference between local and imported crops.

In this exciting unit, we will explore the geographical features in our local area and discover how they influence the food we grow and eat. We’ll trace the journey of food from farm to fork, understanding each step along the way.

We will think critically about the advantages and disadvantages of local and imported food, and explore important issues such as food waste and single-use food packaging.

Our learning will also focus on healthy choices, understanding the health risks of fast food, the nutrients needed for a balanced diet, and how food changes over time. We’ll even uncover the important role of decomposers in nature!

To bring our learning to life, we will apply our knowledge by creating a tasty and appealing dish. Get ready to think, explore and make informed choices about the food we eat!

In this unit of Time and Place, Earth and Space, pupils will discover how people and places have changed over time while also developing their understanding of the Earth and the wider universe. Exploring the chronology, historical changes, and timelines, alongside exploring the Solar System, planets, and the movement of the Earth. Pupils will definitely investigate how day and night occur and how seasons change. Through discussions, research, and practical activities, they will enquire, make observations, and develop critical thinking skills while deepening their understanding of both the past and the world around them. 

In this engaging unit on Chocolate, pupils will discover the journey of chocolate from cocoa bean to chocolate bar. They will explore where cocoa is grown, how chocolate is produced, and the importance of fair trade and sustainability. Pupils will explore further the history of chocolate and how it became popular around the world. Through research, tasting activities, and creative tasks, they will develop geographical, historical, and teamwork skills while gaining a deeper appreciation for the process behind making chocolate.
