Q: Who is the librarian?

A: Our Library/Media Specialist is Mrs. Heather Keith. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in education from Freed-Hardeman University and a Master’s degree in Instruction & Curriculum with a focus in School Library Sciences from the University of Memphis. She is married and has two sons - a sophomore at Harding University in Searcy, Arkansas and a junior at Brighton High School. She loves to read (of course!), play cards and games, and travel with friends and family.

Q: When is the library open?

A: 7:10 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. M-F

Q: How can students access the library?

A: Students may come to the library before 7:30 with a morning pass; after the morning bell without a pass; at any time during the school day with a library pass; and during lunch w/o a pass. All students must sign in upon entering the library and sign out when leaving.

Q: How can I check out books?

A: Students may have up to three books checked out at a time for a period of two weeks. Books may also be renewed two times. No agenda or library card is needed to check out library items - just see Mrs. Keith or a student worker!

Q: What if I forget to bring back my books?

A: While a grace period is given after the due date, library fines are charged for overdue or lost books. Fines accrue at a rate of 10 cents/day per book. Students must replace lost or seriously damaged books.

Q: Are there computers to use in the library?

A: Yes! Several desktops and laptops are available for student use. Students must have their unique MHS user/pw to use school devices. A black-and-white printer is available. Prints are 10 cents per page.

Q: Are student worker positions available in the library?

A: YES! There is always work to be done in the library! Hard-working, responsible students who have a directed studies slot are welcome to apply.

Q: What are the goals and mission of the MHS Library?

A: At the MHS Library/Media Center, we strive to support and empower students to meet the academic, social, and career/technical goals set before them. In encouraging students to become life-long learners and effective users of information, we will:

  • provide instruction in information literacy

  • provide access to informational materials in a variety of formats

  • build an interest in reading

  • promote the use of the library media center by students and staff

  • support the classroom instruction of teachers

  • support school curriculum and reading programs
