Honors English 4
Instructor: Dr. A. Patrick Smith
Course Description: This course consists of a survey of British Literature, of vocabulary, and of grammar skills. Concentrated analysis of major British works will be a cornerstone of this class. The literature study will include but is not limited to short stories, drama, poetry, and the novel. Outside readings and research are required.
Course Requirements: Students are responsible for being prepared, bringing their texts, and bringing the necessary supplies to class each day. No excuses. A folder, notebook paper, a pencil, and a black ink pen are required. The school supplied Chromebooks are required. Other supplies will be added if necessary.
Grading System: The following grading categories will be used to derive each nine weeks grade:

Tardies/Absences: Students are considered tardy if they are not in their seats completing bell work before the tardy bell. The student must check with the teacher after the class for missed assignments. Missed tests and quizzes will be made up after school in one week at a time suitable for the teacher. The initiative to complete missed assignments is the student’s responsibility. Ask at the end of the class about missed work, not during.
Dismissal: The teacher will dismiss the class - not the bell.
Electronic Device Instructions: Check them out on the wall.
Restroom: Do not ask to go to the restroom during class. Go between classes.
This class is conducted under an honor code. All students are expected to do their own work. If the assignment is not a group assignment, the student’s work needs to be only his or her work. In like manner, literary supplements from the Internet or from such sources as Cliff’s, Sparknotes, etc., are not to be used. If the code is broken, the student will receive a zero (0) grade for the offense and a lowered conduct grade.
Field Trips, Competitions, etc.: If you have bad conduct, are failing, or are missing work, you will not be allowed to go on the field trip, competition, etc.
If you do not understand something, ask.
AI - if you have any AI in work in which AI is not required (I make that determination), the grade for that assignment earns a 0.
