Timberlane's exceptional instrumental program is successful because of our strong community support and the unique opportunities that we are able to provide. Choosing the right instrument for your child and receiving basic instruction on how to make sound and care for that instrument is a vital first step you can take for the success of your child's musical journey.
Instrument trials are delivered in three parts. While it is not required that each child participate in all three parts, those that do find the greatest success when beginning classroom instrumental instruction in the fall.
Instrument Selection: Students and families come to the PAC to try out different instruments and learn about the instrument rental process. We offer two dates: Thursday, June 4th or Monday, June 8th beginning at 5:00PM. Please arrive by 5:00PM for the most important information with time following for students to try instruments. You only need to attend one night and you do not need to let us know which night you will be attending. There is no cost to attend this event.
Beginner Lessons: Students will receive basic instruction on their selected instrument, such as how to put their instrument together, how to generate sound, review of rhythmic and tonal notation, and how to place the very first exercises in the lesson book. Lessons occur on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday June 15th-17th at 4:15 or 5:15 for string instruments OR 4:30 or 5:30 for band instruments. The cost for these 45 minute lessons is $40 for all three, regardless of how many are attended. Please note: these are group lessons; private lessons are offered through a separate program linked HERE. Private lessons are $32 for a half-hour lesson.
Jump-Start Lessons: Students will review instruction from the Beginner Lessons (or fast instruction if they were unable to attend the Beginner lessons), and get a jump-start on the skills required to start classroom instrumental instruction from the strongest position possible. Lessons occur on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday August 31st through September 2nd at 4:15 or 5:15 for string instruments OR 4:30 or 5:30 for band instruments. The cost for these 45 minute lessons is $40 for all three, regardless of how many are attended. Please note: these are group lessons; private lessons are offered through a separate program linked HERE. Private lessons are $32 for a half-hour lesson.
Mrs. Bartlett has put together an incredible slideshow with information, examples, and recordings of the instruments available for students to explore at the trials and learn to play through our elementary instrumental program. This will be shared with your children in class, but it's always fun to review the information with your child at home!
In 2020, many of our educators created videos regarding specific instruments. We are fortunate to still have those videos and you are welcome to check them out below. Thank you to everyone who made these videos possible!
