Q. Is TVA accredited?
A. Yes! It is a part of the Tillamook School District and associated directly with local public schools.
Q. What curriculum do you use?
A. Students who sign up for Tillamook Virtual Academy will join an online community of learners engaged in academic work through a variety of district approved online curricula.
Q. What is the schedule like? Can I flex the schedule around my work/childcare options etc.?
A. TVA is run with a blend of "synchronous" and "asynchronous." This option is flexible for your family and your unique scheduling needs. A daily synchronous check-in meeting/content lesson with the teacher is required for daily attendance. Students/Families plan their asynchronous daily schedule to meet the learning requirements of the class/course and the assignments/projects provided by the teacher in a routine that works for the family (approximately 30 minutes per subject per day).
Q. What is synchronous and asynchronous?
A. TVA is a blend of “synchronous”, live teacher-led virtual sessions run in real-time, and “asynchronous”, independent student-led work sessions on online platforms.
Q. What is ALP and how does it relate to enrollment?
A. ALP (adequate learning progress), is a combination of time and progress (approximately 30 minutes per subject per day). This is what continued enrollment in TVA is contingent on. In order to receive attendance each day, the student needs to attend a daily check in/live lesson (minimum 30 minutes), and make ALP in their course/class.
Q. What kind of supplies do we need to participate in TVA?
A. Students will need a reliable device, internet connection, paper and pencils. If needed, Tillamook school district will provide students with a Chromebook. They will also be provided other necessary supplies and materials such as a art supply bag with materials needed to participate in art and other projects, or print curriculum for specific classes or projects. Other specific needs or arrangements may be supported on a case-by-case or as-needed basis.
Q. What kind of events/programs are available for students? What about TAG, SPED, and other special services?
A. As a part of the Tillamook school district, the TVA students are able to participate in school/community events such as Junior high/High School dances, chess club, and sports teams.
TVA students are provided similar supports as would be provided in the traditional classroom. Dependent on individual needs, students receive supports for special services. Supports could be in-person, virtual, small group, and special projects.
