Join our gathering to hear the story and learnings about the Oceti Sakowin Essential Understandings and Standards Implementation pilot school study with elementary schools. Attendees can participate in an interactive activity to reflect on how they can implement the OSEUS in their classrooms and schools. OSEUS implementation materials will be shared with participants.

Susan Shebby is the co-director of the Region 11 Comprehensive Center, which supports the South Dakota Department of Education and the Office of Indian Education with the Bright Spots Project. She is a former bilingual educator with experience in U.S. and international settings.

Dr. Dorothy Aguilera-Black Bear
Bright Spots Project Lead

Dr. Dorothy Aguilera-Black Bear (Choctaw heritage) is the South Dakota lead on the Bright Spots Project which identifies opportunities that show promise for improving academic outcomes with Native American students. She has collaborated with K-12 schools serving tribal nation communities developing and evaluating culture-based education for two and a half decades. She is married and has four children and eleven grandchildren.
