Description
This presentation will explain the resources that the Helpline Center has for South Dakota residents related to suicide prevention and aftercare. We will educate attendees about our consultation services for suicide response policy development and implementation. Last we will explain how Hope Squads can empower their students to create a mental health positive environment in their school.
Participants will understand the importance of preparing for a suicide loss with the development of best practices for policies and procedures surrounding a suicide loss.
Participants will learn about HOPE Squad – an evidence based peer support program the Helpline Center is implementing in South Dakota schools.

Erica has been with the Helpline Center since June 2023. Previously, Erica worked as a Psychiatric Assessment Counselor at Avera Behavioral Hospital in Sioux Falls SD, conducting psychosocial assessments and maintaining case records. Erica holds a Master’s in Forensic Psychology.

Elizabeth has been with Helpline Center since June 2023. Previously, Elizabeth was a Science Teacher at Flandreau Public High School and contributed to creating a positive and supportive school environment. While in Flandreau, the school district effectively implemented Hope Squads, giving Elizabeth a unique view of how Hope Squads are implemented from the staff perspective and the Advisor perspective. Elizabeth holds a Bachelor of Science in Education.
