SEL Classes in Elementary Classes
SEL Classes in Elementary Classes
Throughout the school year I will be rotating through the elementary classrooms teaching Social Emotional Learning. Social Emotional Learning is basically helping our students make great choices, being aware of how their actions affect others and basically being a good person. I reinforce these concepts through the use of books, videos, activities and interactive activities. Each class has a specific focus for the year that can shift based on the needs of the class and what is occurring.
This year as something new the elementary classes in 3rd through 5th grade will be graded on their participation in SEL and the other specials. This will contribute to the calculation for honor roll. The requirements and guidelines are listed below in the image below. Each student will earn a total of 5 points per class based on each of the guidelines. Periodically there will also be a project that will be graded as well. Please remember to follow along with power school and if you have any questions please let me know.

The TCCS Resource Team Grading Procedures
2nd-5th Grade
2025-2026
The Tidioute Community Charter School Resource Team consists of the following areas: Physical Education, STEM, Music, Computer, Spanish, SEL, Art, and Library. Students in grades 2nd-5th grade attend these resource classes on a regular basis either weekly or in a 3 day rotation cycle.
Starting the 2025-2026 school year, 2nd-5th grade students at TCCS will earn a daily grade of 5 points for participation in each resource class daily. These points will be based on the following five standards:
Ready to Learn: Students should come to class prepared and ready to engage. Come prepared with the right attitude, materials, and focus so we can start on time.
Listening and Following Directions: Students are expected to listen carefully and follow instructions. Pay attention to your teacher and classmates so everyone knows what to do and stays safe.
Taking Care of Tools, Equipment, and Spaces: Students will be responsible for classroom materials and keeping their spaces tidy. Whether it’s art supplies, sports equipment, instruments, or classroom items — use them gently and correctly and return them where they belong.
Respect Everyone: We expect all students to be kind and respectful to their classmates and teachers. Use kind words, listen when others are speaking, and celebrate each other’s efforts.
Give Your Best Effort: Students should always try their hardest and give their best effort. Give your full effort in every activity, even if it’s new or challenging — that’s how we grow!
📋Resource Teacher Grading Instructions📋
Students will earn 5 points per resource class each day. These points will accumulate throughout the nine weeks to go towards an overall participation grade in each of the individual resource classes. Students will be deducted points if they do not follow these guidelines and/or refuse participation in a resource class. It is teacher discretion if they choose to warn and notify a student when a deduction takes place. It is also teacher discretion to warn the students before a deduction takes place as well. Teachers will need to explain their expectations and procedures within the first two weeks of the school year to all students.
Resource teachers will input weekly participation grades in PowerSchool for students when they are attending their specific resource class. Students will generally have 9 daily participation grades in a 9 week grading period for a total of 45 participation points per nine weeks which they can earn. Teachers will maintain records for each student in their classes. If a student is absent from class they are EXEMPT from the class period's participation points.
Teachers will maintain communication with the classroom teacher and also may contact parents/guardians when a student is not achieving and maintaining consistent participation within their resource class.
While the daily participation grade is a key component, individual resource teachers will also use other methods to assess student learning and skills. These may include projects, quizzes, skills assessments, checklists, exit tickets, and rubrics. These additional assessments will ensure that a student’s grade accurately reflects their understanding and application of specific learning standards for each subject. Resource teachers will utilize their specific subject area’s state and national standards to assess at the appropriate grade level. In addition to the daily participation grade, resource teachers will include at least two other types of assessments each nine-week grading period. The point value for these assignments will vary based on their significance. Assessment can be summative, formative, performance-based, criteria-based, etc.
Grades from all resource classes will be included in the calculation for Honor and Merit Roll. These subjects are crucial to a well-rounded education and that student effort and achievement in these areas should be recognized.
