This is a state-tested course, meaning students will be assessed with a STAAR EOC at the end of the year.
What students should do:
-pay attention in class
-turn in work ON TIME (late work IS NOT accepted)
-STUDY when new material is introduced or you don't know the material
-come in for tutorials when confused about content
-keep binder organized and use six weeks planner to stay on top of assignments
-check google classroom for content support such as linked videos, practice work, and Khan academy sections
-check Google Classroom BEFORE coming to class after an absence to find out what you need to make up
-put their name on any work they want credit for
-keep track of grades via parent portal (this requires parents to sign up AND to give the student access)
-show up to class with a pen or pencil and notebook paper AND the class binder-daily
What I do (or offer):
-automatically drop the lowest daily grade
-provide a six weeks planner to help students stay on top of assignments and plan ahead
-stay after school or get to school early for students that need help (plan with me in advance)
-offer bonus points on test grades
-provide reminders, summaries, links, and keys in Google Classroom (which parents can also access)
-give fair warning before assignments that will be taken for a grade (with the exception of pop quizzes-which are incredibly rare)
-provide a Blooket so students can earn extra credit on daily grades
-allow students to earn half credit back on vocabulary quizzes if they come in during the designated time to complete provided Frayer models over missed words
-take grades only over fair assignments (material that was directly taught and/or based on grade level skills and content knowledge of the student) vs. unfair (like group work where a student that did most of the work and a student that did nothing 'earn' the same grade or difficult to determine factors like 'effort'..)
