Hello everyone. I am Yip Kin Hang Jimmy, one of the Head Prefects in the academic year of 2020-2021. I would like to share my experience as a Prefect and my most remarkable memory in Ti-I College with all of you here. Being a Prefect has already been part of my secondary school life since I joined the Prefect Team in 2017. 2020 marked the fourth year for me to join this student body. It is never easy to be a Prefect especially after I have become a Head Prefect. I am responsible for the whole Prefect Team and need to deal with a lot more issues such as the arrangement of prefects’ duty and school events. With great power comes great responsibility, and with great responsibility come great rewards. I have learnt a lot from this experience, which helps me grow in confidence and leadership skills. For example, I have sharpened my communication skills and learnt to be a good team player. These cannot be directly learnt from textbooks. Thanks to taking on this important role at school, I have become able to step out of my comfort zone.
Some of you may be curious about how I am able to balance the time for the Prefect team, hobbies and academics. It is true that I may have less time to spend as I have to spend my time on Prefect-related affairs. However, I have overcome this difficulty by finding different approaches like setting a timetable or target to increase my work efficacy to make the most of my limited time. Not only do these approaches help me to work more effectively, but they also help me to make up for my lost time. With better time management skills, I now even have more leisure time for my hobbies.
Other than my prefect experience, there are more unforgettable experiences in my 5 years of school life but the most memorable one must be the Leadership Training Programme. During the programme, we faced a lot of challenges and different tasks. Everyone was exhausted after the programme, but we all found it a wonderful journey as we had never spent such a long time with my schoolmates dealing with different challenges. The experience strengthened my leadership skills and left an indelible mark on me.
Hi everybody! I am Mok Ho Yeung, one of the Head Prefects and Blue House vice-captain in the academic year of 2020-2021.
Time flies, this is my fifth year in this big family already. This is my fourth year to join the prefect team already. I am now responsible for the whole prefect team now. At first, I was quite doubtful of myself. I am not sure if I can play this role well and lead the perfect team to a better situation. I am glad that there are friends nearby. They encouraged me and shared their own experiences with me. They help me to overcome my own weaknesses and make myself more confident. I learnt a lot when I started to cooperate with every committee and other prefects. For example, I have learnt how to distribute jobs to different people which are suitable for them.
I was lucky to be one of the committees in the blue house. I could feel our passion for preparing every event, such as the swimming gala and open day. We build up our consensus and we know each other well when we are sharing our own thought with each other. Staying at school until half-past six to prepare for all the stuff for the open day was also an unforgettable experience.
This sense of achievement is very precious and may not be encounter in my life again. These experiences are very important to me in my life and will never be forgotten. We can learn these in the books, but never work them out.
Not only does Jockey Club Ti-I College focus on students’ academic performance, it also puts earnest effort in providing students with a great variety of other learning experiences, emphasizing the importance of maintaining a balanced school life.
Jockey Club Ti-I College motivates students to strike a balance between academics and personal interests. As a football player and outdoor enthusiast, teachers have always inspired me to continue with my hobbies and get exposed to new outdoor activities as long as I can handle my academics well. Sometimes, I go hiking or kayaking with other teachers or the principal during weekends.
Besides, Jockey Club Ti-I College encourages me to serve the needy in the society. When I was in Form 4, I participated in the school’s overseas expedition which arranged many community service for participants such as volunteering or learning sign language. During the expedition in Kyrgyzstan, my teammates and I used a special wheelchair to carry a disabled child up to a mountain with an altitude of 3300 meters. After the expedition, I realized the value of serving the people in need in the society and I am now a member of the Wheel For Oneness Students Association, promoting an inclusive society.
To conclude, Jockey Club Ti-I College emphasizes on both academics and other learning experiences, providing students with a balanced school life.
It was a very precious experience to be the chairperson of St. John Cadets. It pushed me out of my comfort zone. I started to gain confidence and believe in myself. I have learned to be a coordinator in the team. I have to communicate with many different people, like the teacher-in-charge, my cadets and madam and come up with the best plan with no one having bad feelings.
Most importantly, I was getting closer to my team members. They have helped me improve and become a better leader and a better me. They are my motivation to strive for perfection.
