ScratchJr is an introductory visual programming language for mobile devices and Google Chromebooks. Derived from Scratch, a similar language used to teach programming skills to upper elementary students, ScratchJr helps even younger children (5 to 7 years old) create animations, stories, games, and other basic programming projects by connecting blocks that represent code. The application was developed by the DevTech Research Group at Boston College, the MIT Lifelong Kindergarten Group, and the Playful Invention Company. It was launched on tablets in July 2014.
