In my Master's in Library and Information Science thesis, I evaluated the content design of digital campus history tours at R1 US universities that incorporate AR technology.
Research Questions:
How can the content of digital public history tours of U.S. universities orient participants in time and place?
How can content strategy be employed so that these digital tours remain relevant as campuses continue to change?
Recommendations to improve AR integration:
Include publication dates on screen, attached to elements, or in a logical menu section, such as “About.”
Credit actors and provide full citations for images and documents included in AR elements
Provide video transcripts.
Include profiles introducing narrators and writers who contributed to frame positionality
Consider how language such as “Present” or “Current” can signal a point in time, and orient participants.
A building might have a “current” name but that could change.
Mention dates to sign post, for example, a narrator can say, “In 2019, as I speak, this building is named after Mr. Painter.”
