Arts Week

For Arts Week, the school focused on how to be Green. Through Art and music we used recycled materials to create something amazing!

Each year group were given one of the ‘Eco-Schools’ principles to focus on (https://www.eco-schools.org.uk/ten-topics/).

With this focus, they could choose to make a sculpture, collage a symbol, or conduct a study about their topic after litter picking in the local area.

We linked everything we did with the importance od Catholic Social Teaching.

We worked with a local Artist called Norman - part of the 'South Norwood Junk Action group' to create pieces of art using cleaned litter from our litter picks around our school area.

For the Music element of the week, we worked with a Junk percussion musician from primary workshops for schools, as well as Mrs Longhurst and Soundstart to create music with recycled objects and thinking about the environment.

Three general topics were the focus of everyone:

Litter - Reducing litter, which harms wildlife and costs millions to clear every year.

·        Whole school litter pick initiative in our local area

School grounds - Improving School Grounds for students, staff, plants, insects and animals.

·        Some sculptures  will be living sculptures and help themes around the school (contribute to our bug hotel, planters for diversity, rain catchers, musical instrument in our music garden

Waste - Refusing, reducing, reusing, repairing, recycling.

·        Whole plan based on reuse recycle rubbish

We had a wonderful afternoon celebrating Arts Week at our Exhibition!
