During our time in Botswana, students will participate in conservation studies and explore the conflict between humans and their environment in Botswana, gaining an understanding of the complexities of sustainability. Students will discover storytelling customs in Botswana and apply the techniques to constructing their own stories.
While in Botswana, students will complete a field study on conservation sustainability in Greater Okavango Delta that will include collaborative data collection, individual data analysis, and a final recommendation which will be connected to their examination of conservation legislations in Botswana.
Students will write an evidence-based story and perform it in the traditional oral storytelling approach. This story and performance should describe, narrate, and explain integral animal information reflecting statistical evidence collected on our safari drives. Individual student performances will be recorded and several performers will be selected to introduce the group’s data in the final showcase.
Final showcase is a presentation to a panel of conservationists and local Botswanan authors. It is also recorded and live streamed for our external audience. The final showcase will consist of:
