AAC

Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) is the main area of practice from Farhin's extensive experience in working with children and adolescents with developmental disabilities and severe language disorders locally and internationally (Foundation for Autism Research and Education, Chattogram, Bangladesh).

When an individual does not meet all their needs with speech, a robust AAC system is needed as early as possible. It's not a last resort! You don't always need to start with something simple (e.g. PECS). Speech generating devices or tablet-based apps can provide opportunities to learn new words and develop LANGUAGE while speech is developing.

The process of AAC-use encompasses collaboration with family, staff and/or carers in the individual's life. Communication happens EVERY DAY... not just in therapy. Upskilling communication partners is most effective and sustainable in supporting long term growth of communication skills.
