YEAR 10 WORK EXPERIENCE
SPECIAL ARRANGEMENTS
If you are interested in a work experience placement with any of above, please email careers@theweald.org.uk.
HOW TO FIND AN EMPLOYER
Go to Yell.com or Google Maps and search for local businesses in the area of work you would like to gain experience in (some examples: florist, solicitors, garage, PC repair shop, care home).
Click 'view map' and use this to help you identify how far the business is from where you live and the nearest public transport options.
Click the 'more info' button to find the contact details of the business(s) you want to ask for a work experience placement. Make sure to save these somewhere!
Alternatively, you may have contacts through your family and/or friends whom you can request a work experience placement with.
The 'six degrees of separation' is the idea that all people are six or fewer social connections away from each other. This number has only decreased since the advent of the digital world!
Use the guides, examples, and template on the left to help you with contacting the employer and asking them for a work experience placement.
Make sure to:
Introduce yourself in a friendly and positive way, as this will help build a positive first impression of you to the employer (which might make them more likely to say yes!)
Tell them the dates you are allowed to undertake work experience so that they know when to expect you
Be brave — this is a great opportunity for you to practise your networking skills and build your confidence!
You must apply for permission to undertake your work experience placement with Miss O'Brien via completing a Unifrog placement form.
This is so The Weald:
Knows where and when you will be on your work experience placement
Is satified that the placement provider will, in line with the Health and Safety Executive's guidance, take primary responsibility for your health and safety and manage any significant risks associated with the placement
Read the guide on the left about how to complete the Unifrog placements tool; you can also send this to the employer.
You cannot start your work experience placement until you have received permission from The Weald via your Unifrog placement form!
Make sure to select Miss O'Brien as your placement coordinator (otherwise she won't see your form!).
When you are ready to submit your placement form to the employer,
tick this box and press 'Update placement':
This will be visible on your Unifrog profile and looks like this:
You, your parent/carer, and the employer will also receive an email that starts and looks like this:
STUDENT VERSION
PARENT VERSION
EMPLOYER VERSION
If you are waiting to receive permission, please check the following:
Have the student, employer, and parent sections all been completed and submitted?
Has the employer sent Miss O'Brien their risk assessment and health and safety policy (if required) to careers@theweald.org.uk?
