Ceramics and Sculpture

Course reflection:

Over the course of the semester, I have learned to really enjoy the aspects of ceramics. I have always loved to be hands-on and make stuff with my hands and ceramics has allowed me many opportunities to do so. I have been able to unlock a deeper level of creativity that I did not know I had. I struggled with making my art turn out exactly how I imagined at times but ceramics taught me to just go with the flow and to stay with it. Despite how its looking if you stay at it the outcome will always be beautiful. The website and submissions have also forced me to maintain a level of organization while working, and I feel as though the class required me to use all parts at my brain at some point. I have gained a deeper appreciation for my imagination and I learned that art is more significant than looks and that the meaning is just as significant.

Matt Brown

"Trinnection"

Mediums: Straws, Hot glue, string

This piece was inspired by some abstract geometrical pieces I saw. I origanally wanted to make some form of a living thing but the concepts felt forced which lead me to abandoning the ideas. I decided to stick with this idea because it felt natural and I could just let my creativity flow. Some challenges I faced initially were figuring out what to make and how to make it. When I developed my idea I struggled with bending the straws and making all pieces stick and connect. In conclusion I think it turned out well and a brought my idea to life.

"Biomorphic Lion"

Mediums: Foam,Gesso,Yellow and Brown paint

This is a Biomorphic lion inspired by my love of the animal. I carved the lion laying on his back on top of his mane . I also included to carved paws acting as pillows while the mane is the bed.
