Drawing and Painting I

Drawing and Painting Reflection:

In this class, I had more opportunities to get in touch with all the art materials. Color pencil, paint, brush and everything; get to spend more time playing with them; And I think, after all, the only skill I have gained in this class is I am now more familiar with those tools; hope I can do better in the second semester

Injustice Narrative

Mediums: Color pencil and charcoal

I did my piece based on the fact of how imbalance the world’s wealth is. 15% of people are controlling 85% of the total wealth and the rest of the 85% shares the other 15%. I used the pyramid as a frame to represent the level of society; A rich couple standing up top, right underneath is a whole bunch of people who are carrying them. The minority rich owns the huge “diamond” and “gold mine” and the people down the bottom only has some coins… The background of the top is red which represent the intense power while the blue down the bottom represent how the others were living in the deep down cold. I did not use any paint; my principal is the simple, the better. I do not like the complex of all kinds of ingredients mixing down to one piece, I think that just makes it way too intense to the viewer. And I’d like to add a color to the background.

Memory Project

Medium: Color Pencil

I did this portrait for a kid named Shabir Toofan from Afghanistan. His skin tone really gave me a hard time to mix it in harmony. In fact, even until I finished I still think that I did a horrible job on his skin tone. The other thing that really bothered me was the background. I’ve been brainstormed so many things that I could draw but all of them got overthrown because I worried if he would like it. His favorite color is black, so I came up with this idea to draw the flag of his country for him

Enlarged Candy Still Life Painting

Medium: Paint and color pencil

I had my painting done with my two favorite kinds of candies among all these. I did not have the Brown and Green paint at first so I had to spend most of my time mixing the colors(Especially the brown, it took a lot of work because it has all three colors in it), Another challenge I met was the value of each color. I could not figure out a way to get the right value of the color for the glitch and shadows. But if I would have another chance, I would definitely fix on the values first then use a ruler for the edge of each item to make those more straight therefore makes it more realistic(Maybe not, after the critic)
