Maybe it’s the way the sun reflects off the glass like water or maybe it’s the way the breeze creates a light creaking sound throughout the trees with their heads held high in the sky that truly allows me to see the ethereal world that we belong to. There is something magical about that outcrop overlooking Mallets Bay. Everytime my feet feel the cool, soothing, and jagged bumps that litter the rock, a sense of calming eases me. Whenever I take a moment and just remain embedded there with my legs dangling off the edge and my toes swaying through the water, the air entering through my nose always seems a little fresher. The sound of splashing as fish unsheath themselves from the water and return in such a graceful manner is like watching a flower petal unleash itself and sway back down to Earth. Watching these moments help me realize how I belong here.
The sun slowly changes from its bright warming presence, to a low golden glow so blinding, yet I can’t ever seem to look away. The time always seems to slip away as the day falls into night. Sometimes I wait and long for the day to return, and other times, I enjoy the peace in the silence that the night brings. In the darkness I may see a mink pass by or the occasional beaver presumably headed for home. What I never fail to see is the way the grasses, flowers, trees, and so much more flow together in harmony almost like a lullaby. The lilliputian moments in time are what provide that feeling of euphoria. If you take a moment and close your eyes the magic of the elements will never disappear. With every breath taken, every tiny detail of the intricate puzzle that is the natural world comes to life. Take a moment and close your eyes, take a deep breath, in and out. Maybe you’ll discover your own love and appreciation of this world that we belong to.
