In the registration system, course suffixes identify the modality in which each course is offered. Low-residency students should select courses ending with an “O” (online) or “R” (residency). On-campus students should select courses ending with an “S” (Seattle). You may also see courses ending with “D” (dual). These classes are taught partly on-campus and partly online over the course of the term. Courses ending with a “T” are travel residencies. Courses ending in “H” are hybrid. For these classes, on-campus students attend in the building, low-residency students attend online, and all students register for the same section. Elective courses that are only offered in one format are open to all students regardless of modality. Most lab-type courses such as listening lab or practicums will allow for cross-registration in either modality-type.
Required courses are offered on a regular basis. See the Course Rotations webpage for the current rotation of required classes for your degree program. Please note that because we are a small school, not every class is offered every term. Electives are offered on a rotating schedule based on instructor availability. Courses are labeled by type (required or elective) in the lists below.
Writing Workshop (optional - open to first year students only)
0 credit
The Writing Workshop provides a foundational understanding of the writing process and of The Seattle School of Theology & Psychology’s academic writing standards. This seminar-style class is an opportunity to become familiar with different types of writing required at The Seattle School, learn the appropriate use of academic sources, and receive feedback about your writing. In addition, you’ll review the basics of thesis statements, evidence, paper organization, revision, library research, citation style, and sentence style and grammar. Peer review and small- and large-group discussion will be used extensively in this workshop; thus, the Writing Workshop is appropriate both for the novice academic writer as well as the experienced one.
