The Roseland Academy is part of The Roseland Trust (TRT) which includes two primary schools and three secondary schools in different geographical locations.
The Roseland Academy collaborates with Cornwall SCITT in partnership with more than 25 secondary schools in Cornwall, including a Special School Trust and Alternative Provision Multi-Academy Trust.
The Roseland Academy is a designated Teaching School Hub for East Cornwall working under the partnership of OneCornwall and you will be able to explore opportunities for your future development.
We aim to give trainees a broad range of experiences during the course, and aspire to offer contrasting placements.
Student teachers will usually experience two school placements: either spending both placements within TRT schools, or alternatively, have the second placement with one other SCITT partner secondary school in Cornwall where agreed together with Cornwall SCITT.
Placements will focus on the 11-16 age range, but post-16 experience can be gained either through sixth form participation in one of the secondary schools within TRT placement, or an arranged short placement in a tertiary College.
The Professional Studies Programme in your placement will be extensive and personalised, featuring a Trust-wide input from dedicated colleagues sharing outstanding practice.
The Professional Studies programme in your placement will be extensive and feature input from dedicated colleagues. You will be able to develop strategies related to the latest research. When training with TRT you will also access the Trust-wide CPD. Whilst involved in your placement in the school you will be fully immersed in school life.
Your school placements will develop sequentially from 3-days per week to 5 as the terms and training year progress. This allows you to embed theory and practice in a measured and manageable way, and develop in confidence as you progress towards your final assessment and, moving forwards, your first employed post. The fine details of the course structure for the next academic year may need to be slightly altered, subject to feedback from all the stakeholders this year.

We aim to give student teachers a broad range of experiences during the course and aspire to offer contrasting placements. Student teachers will experience two school placements: either spending both placements within TRT schools, or alternatively, have the second placement in one of the Cornwall SCITT Primary’s partnership schools in Cornwall. Placements will focus on the 5-11 age range, but Early Years & Foundation experience will be gained in one of TRT placements, with an additional opportunity to participate in the transition process of Year 6 pupils into the secondary school, thus offering enhancement to develop understanding of Key Stage 3 context and curriculum.
You will also explore how the SEND provision functions in the primary school settings.

When you train with us, you will be able to train our Trust schools: our small coastal school, Gerrans and Tregony Community school. You will gain an insight in how we collaborate across our schools within The Roseland Trust.
Each school is a very different school and this enables you to have a unique experience in each of them. In addition, you will access the Tregony Nursery to develop your understanding of the Early Years framework.
