Carp Fishing Derby Rules & Guidelines

Event Details

•  When, July 4th 2025.  

•  Registration and Measuring Hours: 10:00 AM - 2:00 PM
 

•  Location: East End of the Pond

•  Pre-Registration: Submit via email to fish@thepondhoa.org or during event hours.

•  Fishing Start Time: As early as 5:00 AM on the day of the Derby.

•  Eligible Fish: Only Common Carp and Grass Carp are eligible. All other fish must be released.

Measurement & Submission

•  All fish will be measured for weight and length and recorded per participant.

•  Fish may be measured at any time during booth hours.

•  Participants must bring all carp to the registration area to be counted, weighed, and recorded.

Prizes

•  Bounty per Carp: $5 for each carp caught and presented at the booth.

•  Largest Common Carp: $50 Amazon Gift Card

• Second prize: $30 Amazon Gift card

• Third prize: $20 Amazon Gift Card

•  Largest Grass Carp: $50 Amazon Gift Card


• Second prize $30 Amazon Gift card

• Third prize: $20 Amazon Gift Card

    Note: In case of ties, the length of the heaviest fish will determine the winner.

Rules & Regulations

•  Participants: Open to Pond residents and their friends/family (resident must be present for guests to claim prizes).

•  Equipment: Maximum of 2 poles per registered participant. Boats and watercraft are permitted.

•  Teams: Limited to family members only.

•  Identification: Participants are requested to wear lanyards.

•  Eligibility: A completed registration form must be submitted to claim prizes.

Fishing Derby Checklist & Tactics

What Patrons Will Need:

•  Fishing Pole (2 max): Lightweight rod (e.g., 6-8 ft) suited for easy handling, with a simple reel.

•  Tackle Box: Include hooks (size 4-6), sinkers, bobbers, and a small net.

•  Bait: Corn, dough balls, or boiled peas (Carp love these!), plus worms as a backup.

•  Hat & Sunscreen: Protect from the sun during long hours.

•  Water Bottle & Snack: Stay hydrated and energized.

•  Registration Form: Completed and turned in to claim prizes.

Best Tactics to Catch Carp:

•  Early Start: Begin at 5:00 AM when fish are active.

•  Chumming: Toss small handfuls of corn or breadcrumbs to attract Carp to your spot.

•  Still Fishing: Use a bobber and let the bait sink 2-3 feet, staying patient.

•  Shallow Spots: Fish near the lake edges or weed beds where Carp feed.

•  Teamwork: Have a family member or teammate help spot bites and reel in big ones.

•  Quiet Approach: Move slowly and avoid splashing to avoid scaring fish.

Tips for Success:

•  Bring every Carp to the booth for weighing to earn the $5 bounty per fish!
