Our Mission

We are the ECO Green Team. We believe it is very important to help our world because it faces some environmental challenges. Our goal is to make Western House Academy a greener place, 'one step at a time'. Our motto is 'reduce, reuse, recycle'.

Using our values of 'teamwork', 'courage', and 'perseverance', our team members work hard to ensure that the whole school recycles and reuses as much as possible. This includes the daily collection of paper and plastic bottles, and the weekly collection of green compostable waste from the kitchen. The recycled paper is then placed into large recycling bins, and the compost is emptied into the compost bins.

We also act as custodians of our ongoing green action plan. We have worked hard to check the school’s green status and suggest improvements and new ideas and projects. Alongside the two teachers, our team can give project work to different year groups when needed. We assist in growing fruits and vegetables in Western House Academy's garden area. Some of this produce is sent to the kitchens and served for the whole school to try. We  aim to create a green space that our community can be proud of. We also aim to influence change by educating, informing, and involving our school community in eco activities.

We teach our peers to make daily informed choices that will benefit their health and wellbeing, as well as support the sustainability of our ecosystem. Small steps are taken regularly to help the environment, such as using water butts that collect rainwater instead of using tap water. Great ideas are also promoted, such as giving a big tree a big hug.

We aim to bring positive change for all our pupils, our school, our local community, and our planet. We, The ECO Green Team, always strive to improve and use the enthusiasm of all year groups as a force for good. We believe in the motto, "Be the change you wish to see in the world."
